How the IRS Whistleblower Program Works

Thorn Law Group attorneys will first review the information that you provide to the firm. After completing a full evaluation of the documentation, the firm attorneys will discuss with you their overall impressions about the claim and your chances of success for collecting an award based on the information that you have provided. If the attorneys believe there is a viable claim to be submitted to the Internal Revenue Service, the attorneys will then help you put together the required forms for submission to the IRS.
After the submission has been made to the IRS, the attorneys at Thorn Law Group will work with the IRS to move your submission along through the process. If the IRS needs any addition information concerning your submission, attorneys at the firm will be available to discuss with them any outstanding items and will answer any of their questions. During the entire process, the attorneys at Thorn Law Group will work extremely hard to safeguard your identity and to limit your contact with the IRS.
Although, the Whistleblower process can have many actual phases from the time the submission is sent in to the office, the process itself can be broken down into three steps.

  1. The initial examination and assessment of the information that you provide to the IRS. This step can last a few months.
  2. Actual examination of the taxpayer by the IRS. Depending on how cooperative the taxpayer is and the complexity of the issues this step can take a few years.
  3. Amount of the award is determined. The actual determination of the award usually takes a few months.

Thorn Law Group attorneys have experience with the Whistleblower Program and know how to work with the IRS. The firm’s experience with these claims will cut down on delays and help move your submission along. If you would like more information on the Whistleblower Program please contact Kevin E. Thorn at 202 349-4033 today.
